美国文学 American Literature
课程介绍:
美国文学是一门旨在培养学生达到私立寄宿美高所要求的听说读写能力的英文课程。课程要求学生认真主动地阅读美国文学作品,积极参与课堂讨论,按时完成课后作业。课程将带领学生们精读4本具有代表性的美国文学作品及其他一些短篇文献,探讨这些作品所反映的美国文化和美国历史。课程将重点讨论学生对这些文学作品的理解和感悟,了解这些经典作品对现代社会的意义,同时锻炼学生如何通过写作来更好地与他人交流。
American Literature isa course designed to cultivate in students the reading, listening, speaking and writing skills needed to be successful at American boarding schools. As a result, students should expect to actively engage in the study of reading literature and informational texts, effective writing, effective speaking and listening, as well as the study of the conventions of Standard American English.We will examine major American themes while exploring what these works reveal about American culture and history.Note taking and highlighting skills will be stressed. Class time will largely focus on discussions about the understanding of the literature and will center on transcending the skills that students have developed thus far.Students will continue to learn how to communicate through writing, with emphasis on adhering to the writing process.

课程介绍:
美高人文历史课《种族在美国》旨在培养学生达到精英寄宿美高所要求的听说读写能力及思辨能力。课程使用Toni Morrison的经典名著《Song of Solomon》作为折射美国种族问题的棱镜,通过课堂讨论与课下阅读,学生们一方面可以熟悉作家的文学创作手法,增强阅读能力,另一方面可以对美国历史,特别是美国的奴隶制和种族问题的由来有进一步的了解,对十七世纪美国内战有更清晰的认识,也对二十和二十一世纪如何战胜系统性的种族主义和白人至上主义有更深入的思考。
Race in America isa course designed to cultivate in students the reading, listening, speaking and writing skills needed to be successful at American boarding schools and in international universities. This course will use a core text—Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon—as a functional prism through which students will engage both American literature and history. Complementing Morrison’s novel, students will read and discuss historical primary sources which reveal the history of slavery and racism in America. Particular attention will be paid to the emergence of chattel slavery in the seventeenth century, as well as the American Civil War in the nineteenth century. Thereafter, we will grapple with systemic racism and white supremacy in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
